YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 27, NOYAN TAPAN. Arthur Baghdasarian, the Chairman of
the Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law) Party, is conducting a political
dialogue with Levon Ter-Petrosian, however, they do not speak about
unification. This information was provided by Arthur Baghdasarian at
the press conference held on February 26, who added that he cannot
unite with a figure, who is declaring on the Freedom square that he
has become president with 65 percent of votes. "This means that I have
received no vote," Arthur Baghdasarian says. Whereas, in his opinion,
he has, at least, 300 thousand votes and if Levon Ter-Petrosian did
not conduct a bad policy towards him on the last days of the campaign,
he would, no doubt, be in the second stage. In that case, according
to Arthur Baghdasarian, the post-election developments would perhaps
be more distinct and of another character.

According to Arthur Baghdasarian, he is the only political figure. who
has conducted correct policy during the presidential elections, he
has not sworn at anybody, however, instead he has received blows both
from the authorities and the opposition, from Levon Ter-Petrosian, in
particular. Irrespective of the fact that Arthur Baghdasarian does not
agree to the tactics of the first president and to his statements about
having been declared president, the team of Levon Ter-Petrosian is
currently struggling and they are conducting a political dialogue. At
the same time, he mentioned that his and Levon Ter-Petrosian’s
unification can be "concerning the problem of a new election."

In the words of Arthur Baghdasarian, about 300 thousand citizens,
who have voted for him, are expecting a position from them and he
cannot play in the hands of the two resisting forces. "And in a few
days I will also tell greater truths, which I am not telling now as
I do not want to strain still more the already strained situation,"
Arthur Baghdasarian said, adding that the settlement should be only
political, though he does not have that prescription now.

The Chairman of the Orinats Yerkir Party condemns the detentions, that
are taking place among the supporters of Levon Ter-Petrosian. According
to Arthur Baghdasarian, any attempt of using force towards the
demonstrators makes the relaxation of the strain existing in Armenia
impossible.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
