YEREVAN, MARCH 1O, ARMENPRESS: Armenian president Robert Kocharian
has decreed today to ease the state of emergency imposed on March 1
after massive unrest in Yerevan.
Viktor Soghomonian, a spokesman for Kocharian, said at today’s press
briefing that one of the lifted restrictions concerns the operations
of political parties and political organizations and the second one
the expulsion of people who are not permanent residents of Yerevan at
their own expense and if that is impossible at the expense of state
coffers with subsequent compensation of relevant sums to the budget.
Soghomonian said president Kocharian signed the decree to ease the
state of emergency in view of the fact that no serious breaches of
the state pf emergency have been registered since March 1 and the
overall situation has stabilized.
He said people from the legal division in Kocharian’s staff were
elaborating a decree to cancel another restriction regarding the
operation of mass media.
