ArmInfo. ‘Summing up the results of the decade of my activity on the
post of the president, I can say I am sorry for not being able to
prevent the incidents of 1 March in Yerevan’, President of Armenia
Robert Kocharyan said at a press conference, Thursday.

He said it is very difficult to assess what was done over the past
years.

‘However, I can state what was failed – prevention of the incidents
of 1 March. I say this with regret. However, I managed to prevent
more serious and graver aftermath though by tough measures>, he
said. He also added that he has no intention to retire after his
term. ‘I will take a short pause and then return to work. I don’t like
idleness. I can just state that I will work not in state service’,
the president said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
