PROSECUTOR GENERAL’S OFFICE INTERROGATES WOMEN SPREADING GROUNDLESS RUMORS ON DEATH OF 12-YEAR-OLD CHILD AT OPPOSITION RALLY

ArmInfo. The law-enforcement agencies of Armenia identified the women
spreading groundless rumors on death of 12-year-old boy at opposition
rally on 1 March in front of the French Embassy in Yerevan. It was
the resident of the town of Matruni Laura Melkonyan.

Press Secretary of Prosecutor General Sona Truzyan reports that
L.Melkonyan told that on March 1 in the area of the Embassy rumors
were spread that policemen bet a 12-year-old child to death in the
Liberty Square. She found a shoe in the nearby garbage and declared
that it was the shoe of the very child. Her statement worked up and
led to escalation of the violence.

S.Truzyan reports that L.Melkonyan pled guilty and said that the idea
of the killed child was provocation by some people, and, she repeated
their idea without realizing it. Hereby, she involuntarily continued
the provocation and now regrets. To recall, 8 were killed during
March 1 unrest, including 7 civilians and a police officer. Over 250
were injured.
