The Armenian President Robert Kocharyan said during the meeting with
the NKR government that he met with the NKR foreign minister and
assured him that soon the settlement of the conflict will be discussed
in Armenia. He also stated that a visit of Armenian parliamentarians
to Karabakh is foreseen, who will come up with new proposals.

The president of Armenia stated that the recent developments concerning
the Karabakh conflict and the region in general make Armenia review
their approaches toward the security and status of Karabakh.

Answering the question after the meeting in which case Armenia will
recognize the NKR independence, Robert Kocharyan said: "There are two
ways, to recognize immediately or maybe replace the final recognition
by an agreement between Armenia and NKR on defense, mutual support
regarding people and imperative involvement in case of aggression. I
think such an agreement would prevent militaristic statements,"
he added.

In answer to the question of Karabakh-Open.com in which conditions
Armenia would take that step, the president of Armenia said: "Since
we are speaking about future steps, I think it is up to the next
president and government. Certainly, I do not rule out and I even
think that some steps should already be taken now."

Assessing the talks for Karabakh over ten years of his office,
Robert Kocharyan said the process "is not passed on in a bad
situation. When I was elected president, Karabakh was viewed as part
of Azerbaijan, over these years Karabakh has never been viewed as
part of Azerbaijan," Kocharyan said, adding that the document today
does not suppose anything like this, the content recognizes the right
for self-determination.
