6 OUT OF 7 ARMENIAN WRESTLERS GAIN NO MEDALS AND PERMITS TO TAKE PART IN OLYMPIC GAMES

TAMPERE, APRIL 2, NOYAN TAPAN. In the Freestyle Wrestling Europe
Championship being held in the city of Tampere, Finland, delegates
from Armenia, Mihran Javurian (55 kg), Zhirayr Hovhannisian (66 kg),
and Vadim Laliyev (84 kg) were beaten by their rivals in the fight
for the 3rd and 4th places, did not win any prizes and permits to
take part in Beijing 2008.

Martin Berberian (60 kg), Suren Markosian (74 kg), and Edgar Yenokian
(96 kg) performed on April 2. M. Berberian and E. Yenokian failed
and after the second round were deprived of the right to continue the
fight. S. Markosian recorded 2 victories and 1 draw. He is likely to
be able to take part in the fight for bronze medal.
