Soldier wounded during March unrest in Yerevan dies

YEREVAN April 12

Tigran Abgarian, a 19-year-old Armenian soldier, who was badly
injured during the March 1-2 public unrest in Yerevan, has died in
hospital, an Armenian police source told Interfax on Saturday.

Abgarian was taken to intensive care of the Mikaelian Surgery
Institute with a gunshot wound and comminuted fractures. During
surgery, it turned out that the man’s spinal marrow was also
affected. Doctors have been struggling for the soldier’s life since
March 2.

Thus, the death toll from the March 1-2 unrest in Yerevan has reached
9.

It was reported earlier that supporters of former presidential
candidate Levon Ter-Petrosian held unsanctioned rallies in Yerevan on
March 1-2, which turned into clashes with law enforcement agencies.
More than 200 people were injured in the clashes.

Four of these people are still in Yerevan hospitals, although their
lives are out of danger.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
