VIOLATION OF PROPERTY RIGHTS OF CITIZENS CONTINUES, LARISA ALAVERDIAN CLAIMS

YEREVAN, APRIl 29, NOYAN TAPAN. The violation of property rights is
continuing in Armenia. Stating this in the National Assembly on April
29, member of "Heritage" faction Larisa Alaverdian reminded that in
1998 the Constitutional Court made two decisions clarifying citizens’
property rights. However, as a result of some governmental decisions
these rights were violated, and until now the government has not
taken any decision to restore property rights.

L. Alaverdian indicated in particular the violation of property rights
of the land users of Dalma Gardens and of rights of some city residents
in connection with urban development of Yerevan. According to her,
she has sent letters to the government in these cases. In the words of
L. Alaverdian, it is clear from the answers that the authorities are
unable to solve a simple problem: if a group of businessmen violate
laws and citizens’ rights, the government has to immediately take
a decision to provide compensation to such citizens and hold those
guilty accountable. Otherwise, as she said, promises made by the
current authorities cannot inspire confidence.
