Armenian Parliamentarian from Heritage opposition party advises
President of Armenia to declare amnesty for those arrested on March 1
case

ArmInfo. Armenian Parliamentarian from Heritage opposition party
faction Zaruhi Postanjyan advises President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan
to propose Parliament to declare amnesty for all the arrestees on the
case of 1 March unrest.
The parliamentarian said at Pastark Debate Club that the necessity of a
dialogue between the authorities and the opposition is much spoken off
at present. Nevertheless, not only opposition activists but also their
relatives and friends and even the relatives of the killed on 1 March
are called to the Police and subjected to tiring interrogations. Some
of the relatives of the 10 killed on 1 March intend to appeal to the
European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg. ‘If the authorities
really want to display their readiness for a dialogue, the president
should declare amnesty’, Postanjyan said.
At the request of ArmInfo to comment on the continuing verdicts on
conditional punishments on the 1 March criminal case, Z. Postanjyan
called this ‘an artificial demonstration of good will by the
authorities. Amnesty is necessary since even conditional punishments
are punishments and may become areason for appealing to the European
Court’, she said.
Z. Postanjyan stressed that Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s supporters also
intend to appeal to the European Court for Human Rights against the
official result of the presidential election in Armenia.
