RA President Serzh Sargssian sent a message of condolence to the
President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev in connection with the death
of world-famous writer Chingiz Aytmatov.

The message states:

"Immense is the loss your people and culture suffered with the death
of renowned Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aytmatov.

For many people Kyrgyz culture is first of all Chingiz Aytmatov,
a writer, whose works combine traditional issues of life with
contemporary ones. He has left an enormous literary heritage not
only to the present generation, but also to the world history and
next generations of readers.

Aytmatov’s works are well known and highly appreciated in Armenia;
almost all of them are translated into Armenian.

On behalf of the Armenian people I extend condolences to Aytmatov’s
family and the whole Kyrgyz people."

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
