The Armenian armed forces should maintain constant alert until the
peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan said during a meeting with the generalship of the Armenian
defense ministry.
‘There is constant danger of resumption of hostilities as long as
the Karabakh conflict is unresolved. Therefore the army should be
ready to resist any attack’, the president stressed. He added that
the tasks of the foreign security of Armenia and fortification of the
armed forces were and are in the focus of his attention. ‘However,
this doesn’t mean excessive expenditures. We should spend funds more
efficiently and gain the best results’, he noted.
Sargsyan also pointed out the connection of the army and the society.
‘The confidence in the army should grow constantly, soldiers’
parents should also be involved in this work. We should do our best
to encourage each soldier who returning from the army to become the
army’s propagandist.
I think that the confidence of a mother, who sends her son to the army,
that he will return safe and sound, a real man and a full citizen of
the Republic of Armenia, is the most important criterion of confidence
in the army’, he said.
In conclusion, the president pointed out that the armed forces should
constantly be improved and developed, and the reforms in the defense
sector should be continued. This is an important premise for existence
of a strong and combat-effective army, he added.
