U.S.-GEORGIAN EXERCISE CONCLUDES NEAR TBILISI

The concluding drill of Georgian- U.S. exercise Immediate Response
was held at a military base in Basiani, near Tbilisi, on Monday,
the chief of the Georgian Armed Forces Joint Staff, Zaza Gogava, said.

Some 1,600 servicemen including 1,000 U.S. citizens, 600 Georgians
and a total of 30 officers from Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Armenia took
part in the exercise that began on July 15, he said.

"The exercise is aimed primarily at strengthening the security of
the region and learning from valuable U.S. military experience,"
Gogava said.

The Georgian servicemen that have taken part in the exercise will go
to Iraq shortly, he said.

The military are practicing various tasks including missions on
suppressing terrorism, Gogava said.

All the events planned in terms of the exercise will end on July 31,
he said.
