Moscow sees no parallels between S. Ossetia, Abkhazia and Nagorno-
Karabakh – Lavrov

MOSCOW Sept 4

Moscow does not see any parallels between the situation surrounding
South Ossetia and Abkhazia and that in Nagorno-Karabakh, said Russian
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"There are no parallels between the situation surrounding South
Ossetia and Abkhazia on the one side and the Nagorno-Karabakh
settlement process on the other," Lavrov said at a press conference
following a CSTO ministerial meeting on Thursday.

"In the case of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the [Georgian President
Mikheil] Saakashvili regime was seeking to undermine all negotiating
formats and settlement mechanisms that had earlier been agreed upon
between the parties, regularly resorted to provocative acts against
civilians and peacekeepers, and was eager to change the situation in
the security zones that had been set up in the early 1990s," Lavrov
said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
