INDIAN EXPO IN YEREVAN TO BOOST ARMENIA-INDIA ECONOMIC COOPERATION

YEREVAN, September 22. /ARKA/. The Indian expo Best from India that
kick off in Yerevan on Saturday is an attempt to boost Armenia-India
economic cooperation, Martin Sargsyan, chairman of Armenia’s Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (CCI), said at the opening of the event.

"India is a cradle of human civilization," he added. "The Silk Road
linked Indian merchants of this country with other countries."

However, Armenia and India have to develop stronger economic relations
and the exhibition can become a momentum for bilateral trade.

The CCI Chairman said Armenian exports to India showed a six-fold
increase last year, exceeding by $3.2mln the forecasts. Armenia
supplies India with carbide, calcium, synthetic rubber and uncut
diamonds.

Indian imports to Armenia reached $21mln last year against $15.7mln
in the previous year.

About 20 Indian companies manufacturing textile, leather, clothes,
simple jewels, semi-precious stones, souvenirs, cosmetics, perfumes
and household appliances showcased their products in Yerevan.

The organizers of the 8-day expo are the Indian Embassy and Armenia’s
Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
