Elections to self-government bodies in Yerevan’s Kentron district
are scheduled for September 28. Two candidates stand for the post-the
acting district head, Republican Gagik Beglarian and former district
head, Leader of the Pan-Armenian National Movement (HHSh) Ararat
Zurabian. Today A1+ tried to know our fellow citizens’ expectations
from the upcoming election.
"I shall vote for Ararat Zurabian as he has great experience in the
sphere. I think as a district head he worked very well otherwise he
would have been taken into court," said 28-year-old Nerses Mkrtchian.
"Surely, I shall vote for Ararat. The incumbent district head does
nothing extraordinary therefore he should give others a chance to
work," said 41-year-old Svetlana Arakelian.
If the authorities sober up and do not rig the election they will
show their goodwill to better the situation.
36-year-old Artak Harutiunian has decided to vote for Gagik
Beglarian. "He has unique organizational skills and is worth the
post. Unlike other district heads he has never stumbled or committed
misdeeds. He still has much to do in the district."
30-year-old Khoren Galstian doesn’t care for the next district
mayor. "I don’t want the next district head to be an "authority."
"The election resembles a presidential race. I think it will be rather
tense. I even foresee the worst," said 52-year-old Siran Poghossian.
Note, over 70 per cent of our respondents said they are not interested
in the election.
