Gas consortium builds fibre-optic network linking Armenia, Iran

Yerevan, 24 October: The new fibre-optic cable, which is being laid by
ArmRosGazprom from Iran to Armenia, is not meant for commercial use,
Mediamax was told in the press service of the company.

They specified that ArmRosGazprom was laying the cable for internal
technology connection for exploiting the Iran-Armenia gas
pipeline. The cable construction will be concluded in the second half
of 2009.

On 21 October, Vice-President of Russian Comstar-OTS Viktor Koresh
stated in Yerevan that an alternative fibre-optic cable for Armenia
through Iran would be put into operation in 2009. "The construction of
the alternative channel is realized by means of a consortium,
especially set up for the purpose," Koresh stated, noting that one of
its sides is ArmRosGazprom which was laying a fibre-optic cable
simultaneously with the construction of the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
