President Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with the Presidents of the
Senate and the House of Representatives of Belgium Armand De Decker
and German van Rompuy.

The parties highly assessed the bilateral Armenian-Belgian relations,
emphasizing the role of the Armenian community in the reinforcement
of those ties.

The Armenian President expressed appreciation for both bilateral
political and economic relations and the effective cooperation within
international organizations. During the meeting reference was made
to regional issues, the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, the
Armenian-Turkish political dialogue.

Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the Belgian Government for
supporting the OSCE Minsk Group efforts and the balanced approach on
the Karabakh issue.

Serzh Sargsyan turned to the Armenian-Belgian economic cooperation,
noting that Belgium is the leader among EU member states with regard
to commodity turnover with Armenia.

The parties emphasized the importance of further development of
interparliamentary ties as an important component of deepening of
bilateral relations. According to them, the latest developments in the
region once again proved that the military way of conflict resolution
is non-perspective and the existing problems should be solved through
political dialogue.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
