DE FACTO
Nov 13, 2008

YEREVAN, 13.11.08. DE FACTO. A complex of issues referring to
Armenia-European Union relations was discussed today, in the course
of a working sitting held by the RA President Serzh Sargsian. The
representatives of the National Security Council, government’s members,
heads of corresponding departments attended the sitting.

According to the information DE FACTO received at the RA President’s
Press Office, Serzh Sargsian presented the details of his visit to
Brussels and specific tasks of further development of cooperation
with the European Union.

The state’s head said that the European Union’s structures were
obviously satisfied with the level of relations with Armenia and the
work done. The wish to deepen relations was obvious in the course
of meetings held in Brussels. Serzh Sargsian underscored Armenia’s
willingness to bring relations with Europe closer, and noted, "as
the first step Armenia suggests that communication between citizens
be simplified, by establishing a more simplified regime of giving
licenses to create equal trading conditions".

In the RA President’s words, an agreement on simplifying licensing and
establishment of a sub commission together with the EU in connection
with judicial-legal reforms to be realized in the near future has
been reached.

An accommodation on a visit of a20group of advisers, who will elaborate
a strict action schedule with Armenian experts, to Armenia in December
has been reached with EU Trade Commissioner.

According to RA President, the new action program will be probably
held within the frames of the European Union’s Eastern Policy.

The state’s head requested that the sitting’s participants seriously
approach the creation of a new program, and charged the ministers
and heads of concerned departments to personally control works to be
carried out in their spheres.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
