Estonia’s Ergma confirms wish to develop ties with Armenia

ESTONIA’S ERGMA CONFIRMS WISH TO DEVELOP TIES WITH ARMENIA

TALLINN Nov 20

Speaker of the Estonian parliament Ene Ergma confirmed during a
meeting with visiting Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in
Tallinn on Thursday the wish to intensify relations with Armenia.

"We are interested in developing closer relations with Armenia in the
fields of both economy and culture," Ergma was quoted by spokespeople
for the parliament as saying.

Ergma said that Estonia respects the choices of Armenia in foreign
policy and supports the country’s aspirations with regard to the
European Union and cooperation with NATO.

The parliamentary speaker and the foreign minister of Armenia saw
opportunities to develop contacts between the parliaments of the two
countries.

Also talked about at the meeting was the tense political situation in
the Caucasus area.
