PROGRAMS CARRIED OUT BY GERMAN TECHNICAL COOPERATION COMPANY IN
ARMENIA UNDERSCORED

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 28, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Prime Minister Tigran
Sargsian received today German ambassador to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin
and the head of German Technical Cooperation company Frank Tibitantzl.
Public relations department of Armenian government told Armenpress
that the prime minister said he is pleased with Armenian-German
cooperation and noted that Germany is the second biggest investor in
Armenia after USA.
The two sides underscored the programs carried out in Armenia by
German Technical Cooperation company (GTZ) within the frameworks of
technical cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting they also discussed issues over taking into
consideration the priorities and suggestions of the Armenian
government during the development of the coming cooperation
programs. The guests informed the Armenian prime minister about an
intention to open GTZ office in Armenia in the nearest future which
will greatly promote the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Frank Tibitantzl referred to the importance of the new programs on
encouraging private companies. According to him, one of them is a
regional program which has already kicked off and is called
`Program of Promotion of Private Economy in South
Caucasus’.
Within the frameworks of the mentioned program the German side
conducted many meetings in Armenia with representatives of state and
private sector to clarify the directions of cooperation.
The German ambassador and the head of GTZ company stressed the
importance of promoting export, works over improvement of food
security, the promotion of community economy, working out and
implementation of steps contributing to the elimination of barriers in
economy.
The prime minister also stressed the importance of these approaches
and stated that the programs which aim at promoting the economic
growth of the country are prior for the government.
According to him, the issue is today urgent not only for Armenia
but also for the world economy on the whole. T. Sargsian noted that
each investment program to be implemented in Armenian in 2009 must be
discussed from the mentioned point of view.
