AUTHORITIES WILL NOT SHOW RESISTANCE IF ISSUES INTERSECT

Assaults, beatings, ballot stuffing and figure drawing accompanied the
Armenian presidential elections held in Armenia last year as a result
of which Serzh Sargsyan came to replace Robert Kocharyan as president.
"A year ago, the current administration tried to buy votes and that
goes to show the disrespect towards the people. But the Armenian people
don’t like those who disrespect them and won’t accept the results of
the elections no matter the time," told "A1+" leader of the "Republic"
party Aram Sargsyan.
According to him, during the past year the authorities "have not
taken any steps to raise the lost reputation".
Aram Sargsyan recalls the existence of political prisoners, the
socio-economic situation and the moral/psychological state, which
has gotten worse.
"The authorities have only suffered losses. The opposition has formed
a body called the Armenian National Congress, which is a clear
alternative to the authorities. The different groups and factions
within the congress remind you of a shady cabinet the members of which
are ready to be more useful for Armenia and Karabaj than the current
authorities. This alternative has instilled hope in the people and
will carry out its actions," promised Aram Sargsyan.
According to him, the opposition is much more pro-government than
the authorities whose only job is to keep all that they have, even
if it means throwing down the reputation of the country.
Aram Sargsyan notes that in normal, democratic countries, government
changes through elections, but in countries like Armenia government
may change at any given time and in any given situation.
"That may happen due to the absence of democratic principles, the
situation of the people, complex foreign policy issues. I don’t
exclude that soon these three issues will intersect and in that
case no government will be able to show resistance, especially this
government," says Sargsyan.
