PREMIER: COOPERATION WITH EUROPEAN INSTITUTES TO HELP ARMENIA OVERCOME IMPACT OF WORLD FINANCIAL CRISIS

YEREVAN, February 19. /ARKA/. At his meeting with EU Special
Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby on Thursday,
RA Premier Tigran Sargsyan expressed hope cooperation with European
institutes will help Armenia to overcome the negative impact of the
world financial and economic crises.
Raul Lutzenberger, the Head of the delegation of the European
Commission in Armenia, Tomasz Knothe, the Polish Ambassador in Armenia,
Serge Smesov, the French Ambassador to Armenia, advisors to permanent
representative in South Caucasus attended the meeting.
The sides touched upon impact of world financial and economic crises,
nearest programs of the government, as well as the political situation
in Armenia, considering the fact that the social tension significantly
rises during a crisis.
Premier briefed his interlocutors on the crisis management strategy of
the Armenian Government and results of negotiations with international
financial organizations, namely the World Bank and IMF, and stressed
the negotiations were held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
"We are getting ready for a new wave of challenges and will, of course,
need assistance from our EU partners in hard times of 2009-2010. Our
programs must be reviewed again and we need to give preference to
social and investment programs," said the Premier.
He al so noted Coordination Commission has been established presided
over by the RA Speaker, as well as a National Board aimed at
implementing priority tasks and activities for 2009-2011.
At the request of Semneby, Premier Sargsyan introduced readiness
of the Armenian Government to collaborate with parliamentary and
non-parliamentary forces of the country, as well as the reaction
of these forces to the invitation to joint works on implementing a
number of important programs. He stressed, these kind of invitations
have been voiced a number of times.
