ArmInfo. Turkey’s involvement in the construction of the new power
unit of the Armenian nuclear power plant (NPP) will make Armenia
dependent on Turkey, Tatul Manaseryan, a well- known local economist,
Doctor of Science, Economics, told media Thursday when asked about
idea of involving Turkey in the project. To recall, on February 21
Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan said at the 6th International
Economic Forum ‘Bridge-2009 in Tsakhkadzor that Turkey and Russia take
interest in the project. ‘We are open for dialogue’, the premier said.

T. Manaseryan is sure that it is inexpedient for Armenia to think of
economic relations with a country it has no diplomatic relations with,
especially thinking of Turkish presence in Armenia in such scales. The
project of the 1000-megawatt new power unit construction in the area
of the NPP estimated to cost 5-7 billion euro. Turkey has repeatedly
displayed concern about the state of the operating power unit and
insisted on its sooner closing down.
