POSSIBILITY OF PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE OF ARMENIANS AND AZERBAIJANIS MUST BE DETERMINED: OSCE MINSK GROUP

The possibility for peaceful coexistence between Armenians and
Azerbaijanis must be determined, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on
resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict said.
"Before the war between the two countries, Armenians and Azerbaijanis
lived together in Nagorno-Karabakh. Now we must ensure they will be
able to peacefully coexist," French Co-Chair Bernard Fassier told
journalists in Baku.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed
forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including
the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan
and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of
the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently
holding the peace negotiations.
The co-chairs arrived in Baku today to continue talks on resolving
the conflict. Their tour included stops in both Khankandi and Yerevan.
