Armenia in 91st place by tourism competitiveness in 2008
YEREVAN, MARCH 11, NOYAN TAPAN. By estimates of the International
Tourism Forum, in 2008 Armenia in terms of tourism competitiveness and
attractiveness has declined from the previous 89th to 91st place.
Georgia was in 73rd place, Azerbaijan took 76th position.
The head of the Tourism and Territorial Economic Development Department
of RA Ministry of Economy Mekhak Apresian said at the March 11 press
conference that according to the Forum members, the decline in
Armenia’s position is due to the legal field’s regulation acts, that
is, "development of a slighly transparent policy". However, according
to him, all draft legal acts and initiatives are put on the website of
the ministry and are open for discussion.
The next shortcoming is related to participation in exhibitions. In
this connection M. Apresian said that not all the exhibitions rated by
the private Forum are of importance to Armenia, and it is senseless to
provide allocations from the state budget for participation in one or
another exhibition.
Armenia is also inferior to other countries in terms of IT introduction
and environmental protection. M. Apresian noted that he shares this
opinion of the Forum.
M. Apresian informed those present that in addition to Armenia, Nagorno
Karabakh is also participating (for the first time) in ITB exhiition
held in Berlin now.
