President of Armenia meets Iran’s Foreign Minister

President Serzh Sargsyan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of
the Islamic Republic of Iran, Chairman of the Armenian-Iranian
intergovernmental commission, Manouchehr Mottaki and his delegation.

The President of Armenia hailed the current high level of friendly
Armenian-Iranian relations and noted that Iran has been a good neighbor
and a reliable partner for Armenia. Serzh Sargsyan expressed confidence
that the visit of the Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry to our
country would serve as a new impetus for the unfolding cooperation in
different areas.

Manouchehr Mottaki conveyed to the President of Armenia the warm
greetings of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad. He also expressed confidence that the forthcoming official
visit of the President of Armenia to Iran would open a new page in the
history of the relations of the two countries and would become a
starting point for the implementation of large-scale programs.
Assessing the centuries-long friendship of the two people as a great
asset, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran said that his country
holds trust in the future of its relations with Armenia, considering
them rational and serving interests of the two nations.

Noting that the Armenian-Iranian relations encompass many areas, the
parties concurred that in recent years they have acquired a strategic
nature and a new quality, broadening into long-term infrastructure
projects. Among prospective projects the two sides highlighted the
construction of Armenia-Iran railroad, which would be of great
significance not only for Armenia and Iran but also for the entire
region. They also underlined the importance of expanding the current
legal field which will create new opportunities for a deepened
cooperation in the economic area.

The parties exchanged views on the present situation in the Caucasus
region.
