YEREVAN VEXED BY SAAKASHVILI STATEMENT ON SITUATION IN ARMENIA

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s remarks about the economic
situation in Armenia was politically tactless, Armenia’s presidential
press secretary Samvel Farmanian has said.

Speaking at a hotel and entertainment center dedication ceremony
Saakashvili said that, "Armenia’s economy has suffered a failure
because it entirely depended on the Russian market."

"When the Russian market collapsed, so did the Armenian economy," he
said.

"The economies surrounding Georgia are experiencing problems. But
Georgia will be saved, if it remains politically stable," Saakashvili
said.

"The Georgian president’s judgments about the Armenian economy are
absolutely groundless. On the other hand, I don’t think it was the
best way to distract the Georgian people’s attention from the problems
in Georgia," the presidential press service told Interfax citing
Farmanian.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
