…. And the national opposition continues to declare successively
its electoral lists here and there, while the loyalty seems always
unable to finalize its "alliances," one day ahead of the deadline
for official candidacies…

On Monday, the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc decided
to announce the names of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) candidates
in the Koura (North) and Chouf (south-east of Beirut) districts.

According to the General, the FPM’s candidates in the Chouf are: Abdou
Monzer, Antoine al-Bustani, Nassif Azzi (FPM spokesman) and Mario Aoun
(Social Affairs Minister). FPM’s nominee for Koura is George Atallah.

Aoun was announcing the list as he was speaking to reporters
following his parliamentary bloc’s weekly meeting. He declared that
the announcement of the remaining FPM electoral lists all over Lebanon
would take place very soon.

Meanwhile, Aoun pointed out that the understanding between his movement
and the Phalange party was impossible, emphasizing there are many
obstacles that prevent such concurrence of taking place. "As long as
they do not apologize, there will not coordination between our two
parties," he emphasized.

The FPM leader recalled that the Phalange party has accused the
FPM of assassinating the late minister Pierre Gemayel,=2 0noting
that the mentioned party also insulted the FPM when they refused
its condolences. He also recalled the extremist words delivered by
the Phalange party officials, namely its head former President Amin
Gemayel, against the FPM allies, such as the Armenian Tashnag party.

Answering a question concerning the concerns expressed by the head of
the Future Movement MP Saad Hariri over Lebanon’s economy in case the
national opposition won the upcoming parliamentary elections, Aoun
wondered whether Hariri has left anything behind him to worry about
it. "The barbaric financial system that Saad Hariri keeps defending
has ruined everything," Aoun pointed out. "The Future Movement fears
a scandal over the political and economic performance of those who
contributed to budget deficit," he added.

Aoun concluded by affirming, once again, the solidity and firmness of
the alliances within the national opposition. He emphasized, answering
a question, that the return of MP Michel Murr to the Change and Reform
bloc was impossible and inconceivable. "Michel Murr cannot be on the
FPM’s list in the Metn district," Aoun asserted.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
