CLINTON, NALBANDIAN DISCUSS TURKEY-ARMENIA THAW ON PHONE

ISTANBUL – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her Armenian
counterpart, Eduard Nalbandian, spoke over the telephone Monday and
discussed the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations, according
to reports on Tuesday.

Clinton welcomed a recent joint statement made by the foreign
ministries of Armenia, Turkey and Switzerland, and described it as
a historic step toward normal relations between the two countries,
the reports said.

The two top diplomats also discussed the resolution of the Karabakh
conflict and the development of relations between Yerevan and
Washington during the phone conversation, Armenian media reported.

Clinton offered support to the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiations within
the framework of the Minsk group and expressed hope for their progress,
the reports added.
