INSURANCE SUMS OF ARMENIAN INSURANCE COMPANIES 2,767.2BLN AMD AT END OF Q1

YEREVAN, May 12. /ARKA/. By the end of the 1st quarter of 2009,
the insurance sums of the Armenia insurance companies had totaled
2,767.2bln AMD against 2,354.7bln AMD by the end of the 4th quarter
of 2008.

According to a review of the activities of insurance companies for
the 1st quarter of 2009 released by the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA),
insurance premiums amounted to 1.4bln AMD in the 1st quarter of this
year, with 485.9mln AMD reinsured.

Insurance indemnities totaling 403.2ln AMD were paid, with a total
of 141.4mln reinsured.

As of March 31, 2009, the reserves of the Armenian insurance companies
totaled 2,192.mln AMD against 2,152.7mln AMD early in the quarter
under review.

As of March 31, 2009, eleven insurance companies and five insurance
brokers were operating in Armenia. On January 1, 2006, the CBA
established supervision over the Armenian insurance market by means
of its integrated financial supervision system.
