Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairwoman Dora Bakoyannis is encouraging a
new commitment towards a peaceful solution in Nagorno-Karabakh on the
occasion of the ceasefire’s 15th anniversary, according to ministry
press release issued on Monday.
Bakoyannis said that she is optimistic that the sides involved
in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will achieve further progress in
the direction of a peaceful solution and encouraged them to fully
implement the terms contained in the ceasefire agreement, including
the withdrawal of sharpshooters from the front line.
Speaking in light of the 15th anniversary of the ceasefire agreement
in one of the most violent conflicts in the region of the former
Soviet Union, Bakoyannis said she hails the constructive talks between
Azerbaijan President Iham Aliyev and the President of Armenia, Serzh
Sarksyan, that took place in Prague on May 7 with th assistance of
the Minsk Group’s joint presidents.
"I fully support the efforts of the joint presidency of the Minsk
Group as well as of my Personal Envoy, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk,
towards encouraging a peaceful solution following negotiations on
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the Madrid Document. Such a
solution is the only way with which the peoples of the region will
be able to reap the fruits of peace and of cooperation and for this
reason, we must preserve the favourable conditions that all the sides
have worked hard to achieve," she said.
