Arminfo. An internationally-recognized GMP (Good Manufacturing
Practice) Standards Training and Training of Trainers program for
Armenia’s pharmaceutical industry was launched on May 20, 2009 in
cooperation between the USAID-funded Competitive Armenian Private
Sector (CAPS) project, the Ministry of Health, Scientific Center
for Drug and Medical Technology Expertise, Yerevan State Medical
University and the newly established GXP Centre of Excellence.
Experts from Australia Michael Kimber and Alan Cooperman from Belgium
arrived in Armenia to hold courses with the support of USAID CAPS. The
program aims to standardize knowledge of EU GMP requirements amongst
a core group of pharmaceutical cluster representatives, as well as
strengthen the capacity of academic institutions to provide basic but
relevant training in GMP. The courses will involve 29 specialists from
medical universities and industrial enterprises. The best 5 will be
selected to train other specialists in future. Seminars will be held
within the frames of specially created modern center of pharmaceutical
personnel training GXP which will help local companies to introduce,
improve and support knowledge and tools regarding international
standards of medicine quality. Within the frames of GXP, which will
be presented shortly, seminars will be held from 20 May – 6 June. CAPS
Director Haily Alexander said that GMP standards are not just desirable
for export of pharmaceutics now but compulsory norms. Constant training
will help Armenian pharmaceutical industry settle this task.
