"The meetings in the yards will surely be continued. If the newly
elected Mayor does not do it, he will come out not to be loyal to his
pledge. This will create grounds for the opposition to criticize. If
the meetings in the yard are not continued, I will be the first
to criticize", stated the Republican Parliamentary member Hamlet
Harutunyan.

As to the frauds, the Republican member stated that some members or
structures broke the law and made electoral frauds in order to show
their too much faithfulness. Harutunyan stated that what happened
in the Malatia-Sebastia commune harmed the whole electoral process,
according to Hamlet Harutunyan, the latter was well-organized. In
answer to the question of one of the reporters, whether Samvel
Aleksanyan wanted to show his loyalty by rigging the election at
the Malatia-Sebastia commune, the Republican member did not want to
mention names, stating that the court will give the answer.

Dwelling on the decision of the HAK lo lay down their mandates,
Harutunyan stated that that step of the HAK astonished him. He is very
sorry for it as the opposition makes to be more cautious. According to
Harutunyan, the HAK had to ask the opinion of the thousand of people
who voted for the party, before laying the mandates down. According
to him, if you are a political figure, you have to be led by the
people’s interest and not by your own.

Harutunyan also dwelt on the amnesty, stating that the president
will study all the versions of the proposals and will chose the one,
which will be acceptable for everyone. Harutunyan added that the form
is not important for him, but the content, because it is humanism. He
is sure that the amnesty will be declared.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
