AZERI ISLAMIC PARTY AGAINST SCHEDULED VISIT OF ISRAELI PRESIDENT

Baku, 23 June: The head of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan, Haci
Movsum Samadov, gave a news conference today. A source at the party’s
press service told APA that Samadov spoke about the situation in
the Nagornyy Karabakh settlement and the scheduled visit of Israeli
President Shimon Peres to Azerbaijan. The party chairman said that he
was against the invitation of Peres [words omitted] to Azerbaijan. The
party chairman also commented on the situation in Iran that emerged
after the presidential election. He condemned the actions of foreign
forces damaging the unity of the Iranian nation. A statement about
the scheduled visit of Peres was adopted at the news conference. The
statement noted that the public was dissatisfied with the Israeli
president’s visit. "The Islamic Party demands that the state leadership
cancel Peres’ visit to Azerbaijan," [the statement said.]
