ARMENIAN AND GEORGIAN PRESIDENTS DISCUSS A NUMBER OF ISSUES

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS: President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili
arrived today in Armenia on a two-day official visit at the invitation
of President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

Presidential press service told Armenpress that the official
meeting ceremony of the president took place in the residence of the
President of Armenia, after which the face-to-face meeting of the
two presidents took place followed by the extended meeting of the
official delegations.

Noting that there are very few peoples in the world who may be proud of
such a long good-neighborly relations like are Armenian and Georgian
peoples, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said that "we must double
what we have inherited from the ancestors."

The two presidents noted that the frequent meetings and negotiations
help to specify the issues presenting mutual interest and ways of
their solution. During the negotiations the sides discussed cargo
transportation issues through Georgia, bilateral communication,
tourism development, educational-cultural cooperation.

President Serzh Sargsyan, for activating ties between Armenian and
Georgian peoples, underscored the necessity of organizing joint
events. As an example he particularly suggested the organization
of annual school Olympiads, conduction of sport competitions. An
arrangement has been reached to conduct first school olympiad in fall.

At the end of the meeting Serzh Sargsyan awarded M. Saakashvili
Order of Honor which is the highest award of Republic of Armenia to
foreign citizens.
