YEREVAN, JUNE 24, NOYAN TAPAN. The approaches of the Armenian
authorities and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) in the issue
of Armenian-Turkish relations have been kept unchanged: that is, the
issues of international recognition of Armenian Genocide and Nagorno
Karabakh settlement cannot serve as a precondition. RPA Spokesperspon,
RA National Assembly deputy Eduard Sharmazanov stated at the June 24
press conference.

Touching upon opposition’s accusations in this issue, he said
that creation of not a group of Armenian-Turkish historians, but
of an intergovernmental commission is spoken about. As to Turkey’s
initiative of submitting a resolution on Nagorno Karabakh settlement
to the UN Security Council, E. Sharmazanov said that Turkey cannot
pretend on mediator’s role in this issue, as it is an interested
side. Besides, Armenia has always been for problem settlement within
the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. The RPA Spokesperson found it
difficult to say whether the Turkish side has renounced the "road-map"
(the Armenian-Turkish statement signed on April 22: NT). He only
said that normalization of bilateral relations depends not only on
the Armenian side. According to E. Sharmazanov, irrespective of the
further development, with the "football diplomacy" initiative Serzh
Sargsyan behaved like a politician of the 21st century.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
