Nadia Simon Joins ANC-Glendale Team as Internship Coordinator

Glendale, CA- With the expansion of its internship program, the Armenian
National Committee – Glendale Chapter announced the appointment of longtime
community volunteer Nadia Simon as Internship Coordinator. Beginning this
week, Simon will further develop and coordinate the part-time leadership
program, which provides an opportunity for student leaders to gain an
in-depth understanding of community issues as well as advocacy efforts on
the local level.

"We are excited to have someone with such extensive background in youth
leadership and community involvement join our team," stated ANC Glendale
Chapter Chairman Zanku Armenian. "We look forward to the results of Nadia’s
work that will expand the internship program to create a youth core of
future civic leaders," added Armenian.

In an effort to provide diverse educational activities, Simon will
coordinate weekly workshops and lectures, connect with city officials and
community organizations to provide externship opportunities, as well as
administer several projects to the summer 2009 interns such as raising funds
for Relay for life, conducting voter registration drives and guiding interns
in regards to the application of their own ideas through individual and
group projects.

Prior to joining the ANC Glendale Chapter, Simon worked on numerous local,
state and federal campaigns, ranging from offices in Glendale to the San
Fernando Valley, to Manhattan Beach and East Los Angeles. Through her
extensive involvement, Simon has also had an opportunity to work with the
Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley, coordinating volunteers for the
Obama campaign. Most recently, Simon served as campaign manager for
Councilmember Ara Najarian’s re-election campaign.

"I’m really looking forward to seeing the growth and progression of all the
interns," stated Nadia Simon. "I hope all the interns will apply their
experiences with their community involvement and in their future endeavors"
added Simon.

Simon, 22, graduated from the University of Southern California with a major
in Political Science and a minor in Communication Law & Media Policy. As an
exemplary political activist, Simon is currently working on producing a HR
106 Documentary for the Armenian Institute at USC. When released, the
documentary will be distributed to various institutions and organizations.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
