Armenian leader, US diplomats discuss ties

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received a delegation led by US
Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg today. US Assistant
Secretary of State Philip Gordon and US ambassador to Armenia Marie
Yovanovitch were also part of the delegation.

Welcoming the high-ranking guest, the president said that Armenia
highlights the further development of relations with the USA and views
his visit as important in this regard. They discussed prospects for
the development of relations between the USA and Armenia and noted
their readiness to expand cooperation in different spheres.

Sargsyan highly praised the US authorities’ special attitude towards
the local Armenian communities. They noted that Armenians living in
the USA are a strong chain binding the two countries.

They also exchanged views on regional security problems,
Armenian-Turkish relations and the Karabakh pace process.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
