RA NATIONAL STATISTICAL SERVICE STARTS PREPARATIONS FOR 2011 POPULATION CENSUS

YEREVAN, AUGUST 5, NOYAN TAPAN. The RA National Statistical Service
(NSS) has started preparations for the 2011 census. The NSS Head
Stepan Mnatsakanian said at the August 5 press conference that by the
goverment decision, a regular census will be carried out in Armenia
on October 12-21, 2011, while a test census will be taken on April
14-23, 2010 in the city of Sevan in Gegharkunik marz (province) and
the rural communities of Geghahovit, Gandzakar, Achjur and Khashtarak
in Tavush marz.
A commission has been set up for preparing and carrying out a
census. It will approve the estimates of expenses on the measures
envisaged for 5 years – in 2009-2013, whose total amount makes 2.5
billion drams, with most of expenses – about 1.9 billion drams to be
incurred in 2011. The largest share of the expenses (1.5 billion drams)
is envisaged for remuneration of those to be included temporarily in
the census work.
