NO COUNTRY AND INT’L ORGANIZATION RECOGNIZES INDEPENDENCE OF SELF-DECLARED "NAGORNO-KARABAKH REPUBLIC": AZERBAIJANI FM

It has been for 18 years that Armenia hopes the international
community to recognize the independence of the self-declared
"Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" ("NKR"), but so far no country and
international organization, supporting the fair position of Azerbaijan,
have recognized or will not recognize this so-called structure, the
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Elkhan Polukhov told Trend
News on Sept. 2.
"On the contrary, all the countries of the world recognize and support
the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and internationally recognized
borders of the country," said Polukhov.
Today, Sept. 2, 18 years have passed since the day of the
self-proclaimed "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
In the address to the Armenian community of Nagorno-Karabakh, the
"NKR" Prime Minister, Ara Arutyunyan, in connection with the 18-th
anniversary of the proclamation, expressed the hope for recognition of
independence of the "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" by the international
community.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed
forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including
the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan
and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of
the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently
holding the peace negotiations.
