During the ARF Dashnaktsutyun rally on September 2, the representative
of the ARF Supreme Body Armen Rustamyan answered the accusations in
address of the Dashnaktsutyun which are made both from the governmental
and the oppositional camps.

In particular, Armen Rustamyan dwelt on the opinion that since Serge
Sargsyan is continuing Robert Kocharyan’s policy and ARF Dashnaktsutyun
supported Robert Kocharyan during his tenure, logically it has to
support the current president too. Rustamyan says in this connection
that during Robert Kocharyan’s tenure ARF Dashnaktsutyun always
expressed its own opinions especially regarding national issues. He
stressed that even if there were certain zigzags in that period,
nevertheless no document predetermining further developments has ever
been adopted.

Armen Rustamyan recalled another accusation directed to the ARF
Dashnaktsutyun connected with the diffused opinion that the party is
not oppositional in home political issues. He commented saying that
ARF has always been oppositional in these issues, even when it was
within the government.

He also noted that the ARF is going to present to the public the main
directions of the policy which will contain three levels: national,
social-economic and political and will answer many questions.

Armen Rustamyan dwelt on the remarks in connection with the ARF’s
demand on foreign minister’s resignation and on the reason why the
ARF does not demand president’s resignation instead. He notes that
the party decided to demand foreign minister’s resignation to prevent
any unwished development and the continuation of the Karabakh issue
settlement based on the principles of Madrid as well as signature of
any possible document. In case a document is signed they will demand
president’s resignation.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
