Armenia is a shareholder of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) since 1995. IFC started investing in Armenia since 2000 and has already invested $52 million thus contributing financial institutions, retail and hotel business.
IFC is a member of World Bank and aims to help people all around the world to improve their living standards by stimulating of stable economic growth in developing countries.
"In comparison to countries in region Armenia has got quite good
performance in energy," in an interview with journalists head of
IFC’s department of ecology and social control in Europe and Asia,
Brian Tait said.
Among the features of Armenian companies B.Tait noted that they
didn’t use monitoring equipment and facilities "to see where the
actual consumption of energy was."
Regional energy efficiency expert Tigran Parvanyan noted that Armenian
companies generally carry out monitoring.
"In general, energy monitoring is carried out, but not detailed,"
T. Parvanyan said and added that 6 Armenian banks were held courses
aimed at financing energy efficiency two months ago.
What up to works aimed on principles of energy efficiency
implementation, T. Parvanyan noted there would be carried works on
society awareness as "people should know what the results may energy
efficiency lead to" and how can energy be used in flats.
Brian Tait, in turn, said that in the afternoon he would meet with
government officials, representatives of the private sector and civil
society organizations to discuss problems and prospects of efficiency
implementation in Armenia.
