Famous names from Armenia’s entertainment business often take advantage
of the country’s road police’s forgiveness. During a press conference
today, Armenian Road Traffic Police Chief Norik Sargsyan stated that
he doesn’t accept the existence of such occurrences.

In response to a question related to ‘interesting’ plate numbers
(in Armenia, the famous and the wealthy often have "special" licence
plates), Sargsyan responded by saying they are working on specifically
those types of matters.

"If you follow road traffic closely, you will find that drivers of
those ‘interesting’ plate numbers are more law-abiding than other
drivers," assured Sargysan.

Speaking on the issue of the use of seatbelts by drivers, Sargsyan
noted that the road inspector’s field of vision doesn’t exclude even
those who drive vehicles with tinted windows.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
