/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Erebuni Yerevan cultural foundation was formed by
the decree of Yerevan Council of Elders, on the initiative of Yerevan
Mayor Gagik Beglaryan.

The initiative aims at restoration of Erebuni ancient Urartu fortress
located in Yerevan territory, Yerevan Mayor’s Office press service
reported.

"The restoration could be conducted with the assistance of other states
or benefactors, yet, it’s only sensible that we, Yerevan citizens,
should assume this responsibility," Gagik Beglaryan stated.

Erebuni Fortress is a fortification and city from the ancient kingdom
of Urartu, located now in modern-day Yerevan, Armenia. It was one of
several fortress built along the northern border of Urartu and was
one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers
of the kingdom. The name Yerevan itself is derived from Erebuni.

Erebuni was founded by the Urartian King Argishti I in 782 BC.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
