ArmInfo. Today the roundtable on the problem of piracy in the republic
was held in Yerevan.

As the leader of the Microsoft Armenian office Grigor Barsegyan said,
today the level of the computer piracy is 92%. ‘Unfortunately,
copyright protection remains unsatisfactory in the republic. We
have come across the situation when the relevant laws do not act
in the country though changes in the legislation were positively
assessed by international specialists’, – he said and added that the
country has big losses because of the piracy spreading. According
to investigation of Business Software Alliance (BSA) association,
in 2008 the world level of piracy was 41%. Barsegyan said that the
piracy losses amounted to billions of dollars. According to the BSA,
Armenia entered the number of the countries with high level of piracy
– 92%, Georgia – (95%), Bangladesh (92%), Zimbabwe (92%), Moldova
(90%) and Azerbaijan (90%) He also said that the lowest level of
piracy was fixed in the USA, Luxembourg, New Zeland and Japan. ‘This
is evidence of the fact that the level of piracy spreading and the
level of economical development are interconnected’, – Barsegyan said.

To note, Microsoft and BSA have announced 21 October – the World Day
of Fighting Piracy.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
