CCAF URGES GEORGIAN AUTHORITIES TO STOP UNFAIR TRIAL OVER VAHAGN CHAKHALYAN

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Co-ordination Council of Armenian Organizations
of France (CCAF) issued a statement on Vahagn Chakhalyan~Rs rights,
grossly violated by his unfair trial. The statement emphasized
that lawsuit monitoring and case-related documents~R study proves
Georgian authorities repeatedly violated Vahagn Chakhalyan~Rs rights
for fair trial.

~SBy convicting Vahagn Chakhalyan, Georgian authorities aim to hamper
Samtskhe ~VJavakheti Armenians~R further attempts at defending their
human rights,~T the statement stressed.

On September 5, the Council made French lawyer Raffi-Philippe
Kalfayan eligible to monitor legal proceedings over Vahagn Chakhalyan
in Tbilisi.

Akhaltskhe district court found United Javakhk Democratic Alliance
leader Vahagn Chakhalyan guilty at all points and sentenced him to
10 years in prison in compliance with article 236.1 (purchase and
possession of arms), article 225.2 (participation in disorders),
article 226 (organization of public disorders), article 353.2
(resistance to police officer or public agent) and article 239.2b
(hooliganism). Vahagn Chakhalyan pleaded innocent in charges pressed.
