ARMENIA BEGINS EUROPEAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP WITH VICTORY

Armenian national chess team began the European championship with
victories. The Armenian grandmasters had advantage over the Danish
team in the first match game: 3:1.

Arman Pashikian and Tigran Petrosian from the Armenian team won, and
Vladimir Akopian and Gabriel Sargissian scored 0.5 each over their
opponents.The Armenian men’s team is rated third in the tournament
standings and Denmark, 23rd.

Russian team ended with score of 2-2, beating out Croatia.

Bulgarian team was defeated by the Italian team unexpectedly: 1.5-2.5.

Vesely Topalov was not included in the Bulgarian team.

Azerbaijan’s team, which rates second in the standing, defeated
Austrian team: 3-1.

The 17th European Team Championship is taking place in Novi Sad,
