ARMENIAN MEN’S CHESS TEAM DEFEATS SPAIN, WOMEN’S TEAM DOING WELL

Armenian men’s chess team defeated Spain in the 6th round of European
Team Championship, with a score of 3-1. Gabriel Sargissian and Tigran
Petrosian playing on the 3rd and 4th boards, respectively, ensured
the victory of the Armenian team by defeating their rivals.

Tigran Petrosian’s game was the first of the four to finish, in which
the Olympic champion defeated Ivan Salgado Lopez (1-0). A little while
later, Gabriel Sargissian beat Miguel Illescas Cordoba (1-0). Levon
Aronian’s and Alexei Shirov’s game ended in a draw (0.5-0.5), as did
Vladimir Akopian’s and Francisco Vallejo Pons’ game (0.5-0.5).

Armenian women’s team’s round 5 and 6 games, with Azerbaijan and
France respectively, both ended in a draw (2-2 for both rounds). The
woman’s team goes on to play Romania later today.
