Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee Chairman reproaches "Freedom
House" with hostile position

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 16 / Trend News A. Huseynbala /

The Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan is presented as a joint
territory of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the map entitled "Map of
Freedom", recently prepared by the organization "Freedom House".

Moreover, the organization ranked Azerbaijan among "restricted"
countries. It presented Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh as "relatively
free countries."

Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliamentary Committee reproached the
organization "Freedom House" with a hostile position against
Azerbaijan.

"The denial of development of democratic processes in Azerbaijan,
economic and other spheres is at least unfair," the Milli Majlis
Committee on Human Rights chairman Rabiyyat Aslanova told Trend News
today.

On the map entitled "Map of Freedom", recently prepared by the
organization "Freedom House", the Nagorno-Karabakh region of
Azerbaijan is represented as a joint territory of Azerbaijan and
Armenia. In addition, identifying the Azerbaijan to the "unfree"
countries, it provided to Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh as "relatively
free country."

Aslanova said that a comparison between Azerbaijan and Armenia in
human rights is absolutely unfair. "MPs and journalists are imprisoned
in Armenia." Freedom House "must express its attitude towards it. All
international organizations know about these facts, existing in
Armenia,. But the above-mentioned organization is trying to inform the
world about the facts in a different perspective," MP said.

She said that such false statements of "Freedom House" will not give
any results.

"The reason is that the world is watching events and is able to
distinguish democratic countries from non-democratic ones. Wrong
ideas, defamation made by this organization towards Azerbaijan, will
not bring any results because Azerbaijan is resolute in its position.
Its position aimed at the development of democratic reforms", chairman
of the committee said.

Aslanova said that as opposed to "Freedom House", many international
organizations recognize the achievements of Azerbaijan. "The
organizations with much greater authority recognize Azerbaijan as a
democratic country. As to "Freedom House", it is obvious that this
organization approaches its end," she said.
