TCA Arshag Dickranian School Holds Its 29th Annual Christmas Program

Los Angeles, December 20, 2009- The Tekeyan Cultural Association Arshag
Dickranian School held its 29th Annual Christmas Program on Wednesday,
December 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at the school’s Walter and Laurel Karabian
Hall. Complying with its tradition, the school held this event prior to
the Christmas vacation thus giving parents, students, faculty members,
friends and guests the opportunity to celebrate the Yule Holidays
together.

The event comprised of students performing in a medley of stage
presentations and dances, interjected by recitations, monologues and
Christmas carols sung by the school choir.

Eleventh grader Ani Nercessian opened the program delighting the audience
with her solo rendition of `Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, which
was followed by the fifth and sixth graders’ stage presentation of
Sdakhoseh (The Liar) by the famous Armenian writer Hovannes Toumanian. As
the curtain opened again, the pre-kindergartners and kindergarteners took
the stage respectively with a series of songs, recitations and dances.
Their performance concluded with the kindergartners presenting a scene
from winter, with girls acting as snowflakes and boys being snowmen. Next
came the 5th graders who sang the popular `Rudolph the Reindeer’ which was
followed by a brilliant performance of the Armenian dance `Kinto’ by 11th
graders and a Greek dance `Sirtaki’ by students from the 4th – 7th grades.
Finally, all participants gathered on stage and ended the program with
Armenian and English Christmas carols.

Principal Vartkes Kourouyan delivered the closing remarks by thanking the
teachers who were involved in organizing the program, namely: the
pre-kindergarten teacher Ms. Madlena Marikyan and her assistant Ms. Nina
Lazarian, the kindergarten teacher Ms. Anahid Avanessian and her
assistant Ms. Mariam Nishikyan, the Armenian teacher Ms. Emma Umroyan, the
music teacher Mr. Komitas Keshishyan, the dance teacher Mr. Robert

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
